Fendi celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Baguette handbag by holding a grand fashion show in New York, with Creative Director Silvia Venturini Fendi and Kim Jones collaborating with Marc Jacobs, Tiffany & Co, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Porter to reinterpret the classic Baguette handbag. They bring a new look to commemorate an era and pay tribute to New York City, which holds a special place in pop culture history.
The Baguette is inspired by the French baguette bread, and in this collaboration, various units have created clothing and accessories inspired by the Baguette handbag. The Baguette appears in various sizes, from large to mini, threading through the entire collection, adorning hoodies, leggings, gloves, hats, skirts, sweaters, and of course, one of the latest versions of the handbag. Additionally, the leggings are made of silk satin, the hoodies feature sheared mink fur or shiny leather, and layers of sequins and asymmetrical silk are stacked at the bottom to create a unique mix-and-match effect.
Marc Jacobs juxtaposes the glamour of another era with today’s understated casualness, pairing parachute fabric half skirts, tattered denim jackets with inflated backs, rustling glass paper opera capes, fluorescent color recycled fur stoles, and oversized hats, adding a formal flair to casual wear, reflecting the vibrant cityscape of New York City. Sparkling rhinestones, silver, and fluorescent yellow are everywhere, highlighting what is known as “local color,” inspired by the glass doors and safety vests seen on the streets of New York. Exaggerated, padded, oversized Baguette handbags blend into these glamorous looks, becoming even more dazzling, and featuring a variety of mini versions.
This series brings a surprise collaboration with the jewelry brand Tiffany & Co., reinterpreting the Baguette in pure silver, enamel, crocodile skin, platinum, and diamonds, showcasing the most precious form. The intertwining of “T” and “F” forms a platinum logo buckle embedded with diamonds, with shiny crocodile skin dyed Tiffany Blue, a color that also permeates Fendi’s clothing palette. The most stunning design is undoubtedly the Baguette entirely made of polychrome pure silver, meticulously crafted by Tiffany craftsmen for over 4 months, engraved with lily and rose motifs, representing the national flowers of Italy and the state flower of New York. This also marks Fendi’s first collaboration with craftsmen outside of Italy for the “Hand in Hand” project, embodying the extraordinary craftsmanship of Tiffany & Co.
Actress Sarah Jessica Parker’s classic line in “Sex and the City”: “This is not a handbag, this is a Baguette.” This statement solidified Baguette’s undeniable position in popular culture. Sarah Jessica Parker’s special edition Baguette or other Baguettes, designed in collaboration with Silvia Venturini Fendi, are adorned with gradient sequin embroidery in purple, teal, light pink, or powder blue, and come with four different closures to choose from. Additionally, the practical nature of Japanese luggage brand Porter injects a strong masculine vibe into the Baguette, known for its durable bonded nylon fabric. The Baguette designed by the brand is lightweight and has also introduced the latest version of the Bum Baguette.
Besides supermodel Linda Evangelista making a final appearance on stage, causing enthusiastic applause from the audience; a group of fashion celebrities such as Song Hye Kyo, Lee Min Ho, Seo Kang Joon, Kim Kardashian, Kate Moss, etc. attended the Baguette 25th-anniversary fashion show to experience the classic fashion charm of Baguette.
