This season marks Demna Gvasalia’s second haute couture collection since taking over Balenciaga. Located at the brand’s founding place, Cristóbal Balenciaga, the design intentionally incorporates many classic elements to pay tribute to the brand. While inheriting Balenciaga’s traditional craftsmanship, Demna Gvasalia boldly integrates innovative avant-garde technology into haute couture, writing a new chapter for the brand.
The series kicks off with a set of mysterious all-black outfits, with Demna Gvasalia specially incorporating Japanese limestone as the base diving material, paired with 3D printed shoulder pads to create a sense of technology. Also eye-catching is the streamlined face mask, jointly produced by the department developed by Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Ltd in aerospace and racing power technology, undoubtedly ushering in a new era of high-end bespoke clothing, bringing a sense of mystery and suppressed atmosphere.
Creative director Demna Gvasalia has always been good at creating buzz. This time, he not only invited supermodels Naomi Campbell, Bella Hadid, friend Kim Kardashian, and singer Dua Lipa, but also invited actress Nicole Kidman to make her runway debut. She appeared on the catwalk in a floor-length silver dress, exuding grandeur and adding even more star power to the entire show.
