Earlier, Dior held its 2023 early spring women’s fashion show at the Plaza de España in Seville, Spain. Dior’s creative director for women’s wear, Maria Grazia Chiuri, drew inspiration from the renowned Spanish artist Carmen Amaya, known as “La Capitana,” bringing forth 110 looks full of Spanish flair and charm.
Carmen Amaya was a pioneer who brought the concept of “women wearing men’s dance costumes to dance” to the world. Her dances are full of subversiveness and sacred power, blending classic and innovative elements to showcase a pure freedom that breaks boundaries. With strong and powerful footwork, rhythmic dance steps, and her agile spins and leaps, she carries the soul of the Spanish people, combining grace and strength to display the most graceful and captivating postures.
This season’s styling echoes the classic moments of legendary women Duchess of Alba and former First Lady of the United States, Jackie Kennedy, riding horses together. Jackie became a legend with her short jacket, high-waisted pants, and wide-brimmed hat. She cleverly combined red and black, and adorned herself with a Spanish-style shawl veil.
Furthermore, this season’s styling is also inspired by the intricate and exquisite embroidery on the robe of Madonna Della Macarena, portraying the sacred and dignified temperament as an elegant and independent female image through modern interpretation.
In addition, the series also retells the poignant story of the iconic Manila shawl, tracing its creation and the rich journeys of its wearers, imbued with a nomadic flair: men’s pinstripe suits, suspender trousers, silk-lined vests, white shirts, Andalusian riding pants, Brandenburg buttoned short jackets, slim-cut edged ballet-style outerwear, and tops with sleeves that can be draped into capes, interpreting their essence and significance through a variety of works.
Shimmering red, yellow, ocher, and black taffeta, transformed into vibrant and charming skirts, symbolize Dior’s classic style and embody the passionate romance of Spain.
