After Daniel Lee abruptly resigned last November, Matthieu Blazy took over as the brand’s creative director. The Bottega Veneta Fall/Winter 2022 collection is his first series for the brand, and many are quietly worried about whether he can continue the momentum that Daniel Lee has built for the brand in recent years. In fact, he has successfully captured the essence of the brand and delivered an uplifting collection.
In his debut collection, Matthieu Blazy chose to return to the roots and original intentions of Bottega Veneta, making the brand’s iconic weaving craftsmanship and leather elements a major focus. For example, the opening look of a white tank top and denim pants, as well as the button-up shirt that followed, were all made of leather. The exquisite suede leather material not only surprises but also showcases his dedication to the brand’s traditional craftsmanship.
“Bottega Veneta has always embodied the essence of combining fashion and practicality, as it has exquisite leather craftsmanship, constantly rooted and evolving, representing the classics of the new era. This is the silent power of this brand.” Matthieu Blazy said.
Later, the models put on a series of mid-length coats with curved backs, combining the shape of our legs when we walk to create a thoughtful line; and on the female models’ feet, you can see that the heels also have a curved line, using lines to connect the brand’s assertion of injecting emotional personality aesthetics into life.
Matthieu Blazy’s debut success in inheriting the brand’s tradition brings contemporary design, symbolizing the arrival of a brand new era, just like the theme of this autumn/winter collection, “Moving Forward,” in name, is a journey forward.
