#Milan Fashion Week: Fendi’s 2022 autumn/winter collection draws inspiration from the old works of “Karl Lagerfeld,” reinterpreting classics with modern techniques.

Many Italian fashion brands are family-owned, with Fendi, founded in 1925, being one of them; the “Kaiser” Karl Lagerfeld worked for the brand for over half a century, creating numerous iconic pieces. For the 2022 autumn/winter collection, womenswear designer Kim Jones drew inspiration from the Fendi family’s wardrobe, stating: “The best way to explore Fendi’s archives is to start from the family’s closet, these garments, although old, give a sense of fashion.”

The inspiration for the Fendi Fall/Winter 2022 collection came from Kim Jones seeing a shirt inherited from her mother Silvia Venturini on the brand’s fifth-generation heir, Delfina Delettrez, which was designed by “Karl Lagerfeld” in 1986.

As a result, Kim Jones recolored the geometric prints from 1986 with soft and elegant tones that suit modern fashion, designing multiple light chiffon garments with wave edge details to create a gentle and romantic feeling.

With the fashion world embracing gender fluidity, it’s not hard to see the influence of menswear this season. Kim Jones brings a short jacket that extends from men’s suits, using strong visual “inverted V” lines to create a sleek modern style.

In addition, from the sky bridge, you can also see a vest made of men’s fabric, paired with a waist belt, showing the strong female vibe.
