#Paris Fashion Week: Louis Vuitton 2022 Spring/Summer Collection Travels Through Time and Space, Recreating Maggie Cheung’s Look in “Heroic Trio” Film

by

Not to mention, it turns out that the highly popular fashion icon Maggie Cheung is not only on friendly terms with Louis Vuitton’s creative director for women’s wear, Nicolas Ghesquière, but she is also his muse!

The LV 2022 Spring/Summer collection is somewhat related to Maggie. Maggie Cheung starred in the French film “Irma Vep” directed by her ex-husband Olivier Assayas in 1996. Years later, HBO remade this film into a series, with some of the costumes designed by Nicolas Ghesquière. In the 2022 Spring/Summer collection, he naturally took on the theme of time-traveling vampires.

The inspiration for “Female Flying Thief Reappears in the World” is taken from Louis Feuillade’s silent film series Les Vampires, directed in 1915. Nicolas Ghesquière presents the concept of vampires crossing time and space, changing according to the era, while retaining a hint of classical taste. The grand ball scenes in the film are one of the sources of inspiration. Elements of splendor from 19th-century balls can be seen on the catwalk, such as extravagant crinolines and tailcoat designs.

As for the use of fabrics, modern everyday materials are deliberately used, with exaggerated padded shoulder cuts, paired with lightweight jeans, creating a sense of conflict between the past and the present, becoming a design method that shuttles through time and space. In addition, the common cape seen in vampire costumes adds a sense of drama to the series.
