#Milan Fashion Week: Max Mara 2022 Spring/Summer Collection, a generation of literary goddesses as muses

by

In the spring and summer of 2022, Max Mara’s creative director Ian Griffiths outlined the silhouette of the French literary genius girl Françoise Sagan, leading everyone into the world of her debut work “Bonjour Tristesse”.

In this novel, Françoise Sagan incorporates her imagination of summer, with the protagonist Cécile embodying her thoughts on vacation, that carefree and indulgent lifestyle, which has now become the main image in the Max Mara series.

If Cécile were to exist in today’s reality, what would she look like? Creative director Ian Griffiths interprets the contemporary image of Cécile with the rebellious style of the middle class, and presents Françoise Sagan’s minimalist fashion style with classic designs; using neat tweed, canvas, silk, and denim, redesigning a series of fisherman workwear, worker jackets, mechanic workwear, and carpenter pants, and contrasting them with crisp and stiff materials.

Although the clothing silhouette appears neutral, Ian Griffiths deliberately incorporates a large number of Bra Top designs, highlighting the perfect balance of feminine sensuality.

In terms of color, this season features a rich variety, including deep sandy, brown, navy blue, and black, as well as eye-catching orange and yellow accents. Additionally, there are patterns inspired by summer items like canvas folding chairs and umbrellas, evolving into avant-garde and bold striped canvas designs.
