Just last night, Kim Jones unveiled the first season women’s ready-to-wear collection at FENDI. After the haute couture collection in January, the reviews of Kim Jones’ women’s designs have been lukewarm. With the 2021 autumn/winter ready-to-wear collection last night, without the presence of a star-studded event, his women’s designs finally revealed their true colors.
First, the runway setup is somewhat similar to the haute couture series that was unveiled last month, both enclosed by glass curtain walls in several large “F” shapes, dividing the runway into different channels. The decorative Roman columns echo FENDI’s deep history and cultural heritage in Italy.
Kim Jones refers to this collection as “Real Clothes,” releasing a total of 54 looks featuring primarily black, white, gray, khaki, and caramel tones. These elegant and neutral colors are actually inspired by the wardrobes of the five Fendi sisters, whom he sees as intelligent and hardworking women from the Fendi family, to whom he pays tribute. The clothing materials are mainly silk and wool, creating elegant and practical everyday outfits. Dresses in different materials and styles dominate this new collection.
In the January haute couture series, marble patterns appear on silk dresses. In addition, the pairing of short tops with high-waisted bottoms has become Kim Jones’ main styling formula this season. High-neck knitted sweaters and satin shirts are made into ultra-short styles, comfortable yet somewhat sexy.
When it comes to FENDI, of course, the element of “Fur” is indispensable. Oversized mink coats and suede knit coats can be seen everywhere in this collection, even when paired with understated neutral tones, they still exude a luxurious vibe. With the assistance of Silvia Venturini Fendi and Delfina Delettrez Fendi, the accessories, handbags, and shoe styles in this collection are outstanding, and the ubiquitous Karligraphy pattern pays endless tribute to Karl Lagerfeld, whether in clothing or accessories.
Karligraphy is a precious legacy left by Karl Lagerfeld during his time at FENDI. The intertwined “FF” graphic exudes a vintage and artistic vibe. Under Kim Jones, the Karligraphy pattern appears on shirts, dresses, and stockings through embroidery and printing, paying homage to the brand’s classic while also telling a story.
