Sacai released its latest 2021 Spring/Summer menswear and early Spring womenswear collection in short film format on its official platform last night. Designer Chitose Abe drew inspiration from the phrase “Love Over Rules” that appeared in the works of American conceptual artist Hank Willis Thomas, creating a new collection that transcends rules and restrictions, evoking themes of peace, love, and unity.
Abe Chitoi has been using different materials over the years to recreate in patchwork form, such as Reyn Spooner, Pendleton, checks, stripes, nylon, etc., by combining classic familiar elements to create new designs that retain the brand’s DNA and bring unexpected innovation. In addition to its own classic elements, Abe Chitoi also recombines and patches items from brands such as Nike, A.P.C., etc., reconstructing different cultures and fashion concepts with her aesthetics to create different possibilities.
In women’s wear collections, it is common to see different materials being mixed and matched. Denim jackets, knitted sweaters, blazers, and other unrelated items are cleverly combined by Chitose Abe, along with her signature pleats and chiffon, creating a series of familiar yet refreshingly new designs.
