Before the release of the Spring 2021 collection, Louis Vuitton released several teaser photos with a “playing cards” theme, revealing that the collection is named “Game On” and explores “The game of fashion,” hinting at the strong playful style of this Spring collection. As expected, throughout the entire collection, the clothing combines the brand’s classic monogram pattern with playing card suit patterns, creating a lively and playful style that truly makes people smile.
The venue for the collection launch has moved from last year’s grand TWA Flight Center to the studio of creative director Nicolas Ghesquière at the brand’s Paris headquarters, with office chairs, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fire extinguishers as the backdrop, making it feel more down-to-earth and expressing that as long as you adjust your mindset and use your imagination, a familiar and often frequented place can be an interesting travel destination.
The early spring collection advocates that fashion is a game, so there is a sense of fun in both the cut and design details. The silhouettes of the clothing mostly lean towards oversized, such as oversized jackets, suit jackets with shoulder pads, wide-leg trousers, exuding a relaxed and casual vibe. “Playing cards” have become a significant element in the series, with spades, hearts, clubs, and diamonds freely appearing on the clothing. Whether enlarged on a dress or mixed with monogram patterns, it gives a sense of avant-garde innovation and fun, contrasting with the office background but without any sense of discord.
Of course, there is absolutely no reason not to mention the series of handbags. Continuing the playful style, classic bag styles such as Twist, Speedy, Petite Malle, etc., are all given a new look with a mix of card suits and monogram. But the most eye-catching are the heart-shaped bag and the card bag. The three-dimensional heart-shaped silhouette of the former is full of cuteness, and it is not surprising that it has become a hot item; the latter directly combines four playing cards into a bag design, which is also a unique touch, adding a more youthful feel to the series.
