Less than a month after the release of the 2020 Cruise collection, Chanel followed up yesterday with the online live broadcast of the 2020 Autumn/Winter Haute Couture collection. The video was shot by director Mikael Jansson, with models showcasing a total of 30 elegant and glamorous couture outfits, accompanied by playful yet slightly lazy music.
This season’s rock punk style completely subverts Chanel’s past elegant image, contrasting sharply with the soft and gentle style presented in the previous spring/summer haute couture collection inspired by “convent.” “The image I have in mind is a punk princess walking out of the Paris theater (Le Palace) at sunrise, wearing a silk dress, wild and fluffy hair, and lots of jewelry,” creative director Virginie Viard said. This collection is more inspired by Karl Lagerfeld than Gabrielle Chanel, as the old master often accompanied tastefully dressed female friends to Le Palace, where their style was luxurious and avant-garde, laying the foundation for this fall/winter haute couture collection.
The collection is almost entirely in black, white, and gray as the main colors, emphasizing the rebellious punk side while also adding a touch of pink tones to bring out a luxurious feeling, presenting a conflicting sense of beauty. The craftsmen from the brand’s Lesage, Montex workshops, Lemarié camellia feather workshop, and Goossens gold and silver workshop carefully embellish waist-short dresses, short jackets, flower crown pleated skirts, and trousers with sequins, crystals, gems, and pearls, paired with the iconic tweed fabric, gorgeous yet with a rock ‘n’ roll vibe, shaping out eye-catching, full of personality Chanel girls.
Virginie Viard believes that the essence of haute couture lies in romance, with each silhouette exuding a romantic sentiment. Therefore, the collection features elements such as carved lace, cake-like skirts, and puffy princess sleeves, paired with the brand’s top-tier jewelry and ribbon high heels, blending elegance with a touch of edginess, embodying the ultimate in rock romanticism.
