American contemporary artist Jean-Michel Basquiat’s street art not only frequently appears in galleries, but his creations have also become the subject of many fashion brand collaborations in recent years! Recently, Dr. Martens released a new series inspired by Jean-Michel Basquiat, turning shoes and backpacks into fashionable canvases for this artistic genius!
Jean-Michel Basquiat, known as “The Black Picasso,” entered the art world in the early 1980s, using race and social political issues as his artistic themes. His work later transcended into music and other fields, leaving a lasting impact for future generations. In tribute to Jean-Michel Basquiat, Dr. Martens has once again collaborated with Artestar, adorning his classic works on the 1460 boots, 1461 shoes, and backpacks.
The Dr. Martens 1460 boots are adorned with Jean-Michel Basquiat’s classic 1982 work “Untitled”, with its vivid patterns contrasting against the black smooth leather upper, making it even more eye-catching. The boots also feature Basquiat’s iconic crown motif on the heel tab, adding more artistic details to the footwear.
Another pair of 1461 shoes features Jean-Michel Basquiat’s 1984 work “Pez Dispenser,” with world-famous dinosaur drawings printed on the smooth leather uppers and insoles, accented with yellow smooth leather straps and crown pattern details. The printed part of the insole is also adorned with his artwork.
Dr. Martens has also released a backpack made of tough smooth leather, featuring Basquiat’s “Untitled” as a design element, adorned with Basquiat’s crown motif, echoing the design of the shoes.
