Vans The news of the passing of Vans brand founder Paul Van Doren is regrettable. He co-founded Van Doren Rubber Company in 1966 with Gordon Lee and Jim Van Doren, bringing popular skate shoes to skateboard enthusiasts, with the classic Vans Era being one of them. Recently, Vans Hong Kong collaborated with local select shop Asterisk and up-and-coming Japanese artist CHARR to redesign the classic Vans Era shoes, creating a limited capsule collection called “HUMAN.”
Japanese artist and illustrator CHARR draws inspiration from street fashion, music, and skateboarding, known for his vibrant colors and expressive portrait style. In this “HUMAN” series, he adds lively and whimsical elements to Vans footwear, such as bright big eyes on sneakers, giving the design a lively vibe.
The limited capsule collection “HUMAN” shoes, as well as clothing from the same series, are exclusively available at BELOWGROUND in Central. In addition, BELOWGROUND has transformed the venue into an exhibition space showcasing the works of artist CHARR and the capsule collection. Asterisk will also collaborate with the local non-profit art organization HKWALLS to hold workshops every weekend during the event, allowing everyone to inject creativity into Vans Era shoes.
