Everyone needs love and positive energy, injecting more happiness into each day. Longchamp’s latest collaboration with American artist Robert Indiana, the Longchamp x Robert Indiana collection, pays tribute to his most iconic and influential artwork, “LOVE,” by combining it with the classic Le Pliage. Through the charm of the handbags, it brings forth an emotional resonance with Indiana’s work.
Robert Indiana spent his entire life spreading the power of love to the world. He is one of the most influential and pioneering American artists since the 1960s, and his works are filled with the power of language, color, and form. Over the years, he has transformed the vocabulary of his beliefs into three-dimensional sculptures or images, which can be found on the streets or in art museums around the world, actively spreading the energy of love. The “LOVE” image, created in a stacked format, was born in 1964 as a series of prints that he created and gave to his friends. Through a series of paintings, sculptures, and prints, he further developed his concept, making “LOVE” a symbol of 20th-century art and one of the most recognizable artworks in the world.
“I have always admired the late American artist Robert Indiana, partly because I believe his graphic style is full of personality and optimism, which perfectly aligns with Longchamp’s bold spirit and vitality. Love is universal, a positive message that is understood worldwide, and I love replicating this message onto the Le Pliage collection, a beloved handbag. Releasing a short-lived collection that will last forever, I love this concept.” said Sophie Delafontaine, Creative Director and granddaughter of the founder of Longchamp.
The capsule collection this time comes in three colorways, all inspired by Indiana’s original artwork. They are available in the Le Pliage travel bag, shoulder bag, and handbag, as well as two new square handbag styles – one large tote and one mini crossbody bag. There is also a leather version of the Le Pliage small handbag, featuring the LOVE pattern in embossed form. Additionally, the pattern is used on the leather keychain, as well as on a white cotton t-shirt and gray cotton sweatshirt with red pattern, both of which are unisex styles.
