The classic handbag that was born 76 years ago! Supermodel Liu Wen surprises in the new Gucci Bamboo 1947 advertisement.

When it comes to Gucci’s classic handbags, the Gucci Bamboo 1947 handbag, which has a history of 76 years, is still the core bag of the brand’s classic handbag collection. Recently, supermodel Liu Wen took on the role of starring in the latest advertising campaign, showcasing the unique charm of this classic handbag design.

This handbag, born in 1947, has become a classic design after being crowned with leather handles instead of bamboo handles. It has witnessed Gucci’s journey of bringing new vitality to craftsmanship and luxury style, and reflects how the brand has reached its current position with its creative essence and professional achievements.

Over the years, Gucci has constantly innovated the Gucci Bamboo 1947 handbag, introducing various sizes and materials to cater to the ever-changing female image, bringing different interpretations to this classic. Recently, supermodel Liu Wen was specially invited to star in the latest advertising campaign, directed by renowned photographer David Sims, depicting the connection between people and beloved items, while also revealing the extension of women’s self and their unique charm.

In 1947, during a time when traditional materials were scarce in post-war Italy, with the assistance of Florentine craftsmen, the brand’s founder, Guccio Gucci, decided to boldly use lightweight and durable bamboo handles for handbags, breaking the aesthetic rules of the time with a contrasting design. Each handle is made through a complex production process, from selecting the bamboo to shaping it, making each handle unique.

The first stop will be held in Shanghai from April 28th to June 25th, curated by Italian fashion critic Maria Luisa Frisa and designed by British artist Es Devlin. Es Devlin has also created a special art installation for Bamboo 1947, which will be displayed in dedicated showcases and selected Gucci stores worldwide.
