Balenciaga once again clears its IG, posting photos representing the colors of the Ukrainian flag, as well as information on the release of a T-Shirt for the “UNITED24” to raise funds for the reconstruction of Ukraine, in support of refugees to return home and start a new life as soon as possible.
Balenciaga’s artistic director Demin, at the beginning of the Ukraine war, cleared his IG and uploaded a photo of all white with a peace dove emoji, then changed it to a photo with the colors of the Ukrainian flag to promote anti-war.
Demin has always been dedicated to promoting anti-war efforts, conveying the anxiety brought by war in Vetements’ Spring/Summer 2019 collection, and showing support for Ukraine in Balenciaga’s Fall/Winter 2022 fashion show under the guise of resistance. This is all deeply connected to his life experiences, as he was born in Georgia during the Soviet era and personally experienced persecution and became a refugee during wartime. His first place of refuge was the city of Odessa on the northwest coast of Ukraine.
Recently, the brand released a T-Shirt on IG for the “UNITED24” Ukraine Fundraising, designed by Demin, priced at 200 euros, with the Ukrainian flag and supportive phrases on the front, and a QR code on the back linking to the Balenciaga fundraising T-Shirt website. All profits from sales will be donated to rebuild or renovate important facilities such as roads, hospitals, and schools, to help refugees return home and start new lives. The T-Shirt is now available on the website, and those who wish to contribute can visit IG or the website for more detailed information.
