Since Deng Aijia took over Shanghai Tang, the brand’s designs have become more youthful and international. For the early autumn 2021 collection, she invited Korean designer Yuni Ahn, who previously served as the design director at Celine and worked closely with Phoebe Philo.
Inspired by the confidence and unique attitude of modern women, Yuni Ahn has turned her experiences living in Hong Kong in the 1990s into inspiration, designing clothing that combines Hong Kong’s characteristics and Chinese elements. The clothing designs reference the structure and clean lines of the qipao, especially incorporating the qipao’s iconic diagonal fastening detail into various shirts, allowing the collar to be fully buttoned up, half-folded, fully open, or draped over the shoulders.
The collaborative series includes women’s wear, handbags, shoes, scarves, and accessories, with floral jacquard patterns as the highlight. Through special technical processing, it creates a visually detailed and distinct effect. The lucky cookie handbag in the series is a playful piece, with a unique curved shape and a double-layer compartment structure inside. Simply fasten the attached short leather strap to adjust the shape of the bag, presenting a curved lucky cookie shape with a strong sense of three-dimensionality.
