“The Asian Met Gala” fashion exhibition lands at K11 Musea, showcasing exclusive brand craftsmanship for the first time!

The annual fashion event Met Gala has explored different aspects, fields, and personalities’ subtle relationship with fashion over the years. However, for fashion-loving Hong Kong people, such a grand event always seems like a world away. This year, Hong Kong finally has the opportunity to experience a fashion event similar to the Met Gala.

Recently, K11 Musea announced that the “Asian Met Gala,” co-hosted by Mr. Adrian Cheng, CEO of New World Development, and Carine Roitfeld, former editor-in-chief of Vogue France and stylist, will hold a large-scale exhibition titled “Savoir-Faire: The Mastery of Craft in Fashion” on December 13th at the K11 Art and Culture Center on the 6th floor of Victoria Dockside. The exhibition will showcase a series of never-before-seen masterpieces from renowned brands.

As the first large-scale exhibition in Asia that combines fashion craftsmanship with leading brands, “Savoir-Faire: The Mastery of Craft in Fashion” will take its name “Savoir-Faire” as the theme, with five major exhibition areas – Modern Reinvention, Atelier Tailleur, Extreme Craft, Bridal Couture, and Tales From The Runway – telling the moving stories and history of craftsmanship aesthetics behind fashion craftsmanship. In order to accurately showcase the fashion charm of a series of craftsmanship works, the organizers have set up five exhibition areas with visual and sensory impact, aiming to allow visitors to fully immerse themselves in the story of each unique piece.

As mentioned above, many of the items on display this time are extraordinary artworks that have never been publicly exhibited before, rare and unique. They come from legendary brands and designers, including Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Chanel, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Loewe, Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, Tom Ford, and Valentino, as well as high-end custom clothing brands and ready-to-wear designs. There are also masterpieces from avant-garde designers Richard Quinn, Iris van Herpen, Schiaparelli, and Tom Van der Borght, who often only appear in Haute Couture presentations; at the same time, rare crafts from the K11 Craft & Guild Foundation (KCG) will also be exhibited.

Carine Roitfeld and Mr. Zheng Zhigang both believe that the spirit of Savoir Faire lies in the connection of history, injecting new vitality into traditional arts and crafts through continuous evolution. To celebrate the event, unveiling events will be held simultaneously in Hong Kong and Paris. Mr. Zheng Zhigang will host a large party, K11 Night, this Friday (December 10), while Carine Roitfeld will appear at the historic Hôtel de Crillon under the Rosewood group, hosting the Paris unveiling party that spans two continents. At that time, the two locations will be live-streamed, allowing the two curators to jointly kick off the exhibition.

In addition, this exhibition will also host a fashion charity auction called “Savoir Faire for a Good Cause”. Curated by KCG, the auction will feature a selection of highly collectible fashion items, including garments handcrafted by century-old artisans, to be used for a silent auction. All proceeds from this auction will be donated to UNESCO and KCG. The bidding deadline is 9:00 PM on December 13th (next Monday).

The “Savoir-Faire: The Mastery of Craft in Fashion” exhibition will officially open on December 13, 2021. Readers can make online reservations to view these rare auction items from December 13 to mid-January next year. Early bird tickets are now available for purchase on the K11 MUSEA website.
