In today’s generation, most people live in two worlds at the same time – the real world and the virtual world. In our daily lives where our devices are always in our hands, social media platforms have become a necessity. How do you see the world through your own filter? Are you fearless in showing your true self, or have you become accustomed to your “perfect face”?
“I listen, I listen, who still thinks they are very good?”
This issue of ZEditoral is guest-edited by Gladys Li and she shares the concept of her newly released song “00000”. The style of the song represents a new attempt, with a hint of Trap and Hip Hop, creating a slightly psychedelic atmosphere that is completely different from the past fresh and love song styles. The lyrics showcase an attitude and also reflect Gladys’ true feelings, expressing some mockery towards the electronic generation. “I listen, I listen, who is talking about live streaming with a panicked face” is a satire on how people tend to package themselves and present a filtered version of themselves through live streaming, often creating a contrast with their real appearance. The last line of the song, “I listen, I listen, who still feels extremely good about themselves?” hopes to serve as a reminder and make everyone question whether they have been using these electronic tools inappropriately.
