Cartier’s new Libre collection is inspired by nature.

by

Every year, Cartier Creative Studio breaks through creative boundaries with new materials as inspiration. The Cartier Libre Polymorph series of watches and jewelry continues the convertible design concept. Drawing inspiration from the ever-evolving nature, the brand designs fluid and versatile pieces that showcase innovative shapes. Craftsmen effortlessly reproduce the endless forms of nature; the sun’s trajectory transforms into a bracelet; precious flower petals swaying in the wind become a ring, blooming gracefully between the fingers. The wild and unrestrained American leopard only reveals its sharp claws, allowing one to glimpse the whole from just one “claw”: Cartier presents the partial form of 4 sharp claws in a realistic manner, creating a stunning and eye-catching brooch.

Cartier excels in the art of transformation and is happy to externalize it in form. To this end, the brand draws inspiration from the “Kintsugi” craft, using gold thread to make the traces of transformation vivid. In addition, bold and creative ideas are interpreted with striking custom-cut striped agate. The deep color and dazzling luster of striped agate have appeared in the brand’s works since the 1930s in the form of rigid bracelets, creating a sharp contrast and elegant beauty. Two bracelets embodying the same aesthetic concept are born. One of the bracelets is adorned with turquoise, black onyx, and sapphire inlays. The sides are decorated with a central line composed of precisely cut sapphires, emeralds, and diamonds. Black and white is one of Cartier’s iconic color combinations, incorporated into the brand’s fashion elements since the 1910s. This precious and charming ring reproduces the phenomenon of a solar eclipse, using a stark black and white color contrast to make the piece visually impactful.
