Start by choosing the right jewelry from the skin tone! 3 methods to identify skin tone

The wedding date is approaching, and recently I have started seriously trying on the engagement ring in my mind. However, after actually trying it on, I have mixed feelings. Fifteen out of sixteen, fifteen because I have always liked the meaning behind that series and the design itself, but sixteen because of the effect of the metal color against my skin tone. This made me want to further understand my undertone, and upon searching, I discovered the following three relatively simple methods of identification:

Step 1: Vascular Color Recognition Method

Pay attention to the color of the veins on your wrist in the sunlight. If they appear blue or purple, your skin tone leans towards cool tones. If they appear green, then it leans towards warm tones. If you have both colors, it can be considered a neutral skin tone. Although some netizens say this is a method commonly used in Western countries and that even with fair skin, Asians tend to have yellow undertones and fewer blue veins, I personally find that my veins do appear blue under the above conditions, so it can be considered as a preliminary reference.

Step 2: Personal Color Test

Personal Color, which has been popular in Japan and South Korea for a long time, is a professional color diagnosis method that starts with skin color, natural hair color, iris color, etc., and then compares different tones and color schemes with test fabrics to find the most suitable color scheme for you. In addition to obtaining results from professional color analysts, there are also some simplified versions of self-tests online. After completion, you can distinguish whether you belong to warm tone, cool tone, or neutral tone, and you can also understand the more suitable clothing colors for yourself by further subdividing into the four major categories of spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

When answering the following three questions, you can note how many choices belong to A and B.

1. Is the skin red?
A. No | B. Yes

2. In contrast to white paper, which category does the overall skin color lean towards?
A. Yellow, orange | B. Pink

3. Compare A and B in the following eight lines visually and determine which one complements your skin tone better? (You can recall the feeling of trying on clothes in front of a mirror on a regular basis to help with your decision. When comparing each option, you can cover the colors outside of that line with a blank piece of paper to make the comparison easier.)

-多於八個A:Power Warm Tone
-多於八個B:Power Cool Tone
-多於六個A:Warm Tone
-多於六個B:Cool Tone
-A 與 B的數目相同:Neutral Tone

Step 3: Compare among friends

Based on the above two tests, you may have a preliminary understanding of your own skin tone. In this way, you can pay attention to the skin tones of different friends around you, gradually narrowing down the range from high to low contrast, especially comparing the skin color between the neck and chest, as well as the skin color of the forearms, because these areas are relatively less affected by sun exposure or makeup effects.

After multiple rounds of comparison, the comprehensive results may help you confirm the results of the two tests, or help you discover another skin undertone called Olive Skin beyond the three undertones of cool, warm, and neutral. The so-called olive skin, at first glance, appears yellowish, but with a cool undertone, which is quite common among Asians. This undertone is more difficult to identify by looking at the blood vessels, but when compared with friends, if you see a greenish or grayish hue on the skin, or if you belong to olive skin.

In addition to the above three methods, there are also many other ways to distinguish skin tones, such as comparing the differences in different foundation colors on the skin to obtain results. If you have time, you might as well give it a try.

If you only consider adding accessories to your daily shirt, you can indeed start with personal preferences, but when faced with choosing rings, engagement rings, or higher-priced jewelry collections, and find it difficult to make a decision when trying them on, you might as well start from the direction of your skin tone! Next time, I will share with everyone how to match suitable jewelry accessories with your skin tone.
