CHANEL “1932” high jewelry A journey beyond space and time

Ninety years after Gabrielle Chanel created her first high jewelry collection “Bijoux de Diamants,” CHANEL Jewelry Studio’s Director of Creation, Patrice Leguéreau, has crafted a new chapter inspired by “Bijoux de Diamants.” Named after the significant year of its birth, the top jewelry collection “1932” revives the style spirit of that era, taking us on a journey beyond space and time.

“I want to recreate the essence of 1932, faithfully conveying the design concept through three major symbols including comets, moons, and suns. Everything in the universe shines with its own unique light.” Patrice Leguéreau, Creative Director of CHANEL Jewelry Studio.

“1932” draws on astronomical imagery, simple lines, and elements of liberating body freedom, using contemporary techniques to create 77 brand new pieces, including 13 pieces with convertible jewelry designs, giving the pieces a versatile flexibility when worn, allowing various astronomical symbol shapes to freely wrap around and adhere to the skin, complementing the body’s rhythmic movements.

There are a total of 34 works with comets as the theme, ranging from single stars or clusters of stars, radiating with dazzling starlight. The “Comète Volute” necklace and bracelet are the representative works of the series, adorned with two highly symbolic gems, a brilliant 19.32-carat oval-cut white diamond and a yellow diamond. The brooch features a round-cut diamond at the center, set with a pear-cut diamond comet tail, which can be detached and converted into a bracelet for wearing.

The moon shape, although only appeared in one piece in the “Bijoux de Diamants” collection back then, established its classic status in the “1932” collection, with a total of 18 series works this time. In addition to the classic crescent moon design, the “Lune Étincelante” series set focuses on moonlight, with a necklace set with a 5-carat round-cut diamond, showcasing a magnificent halo; the brooch combines the moon with the sun to present day and night, the two totems can be detached and worn independently, and the diamond lines can be connected to form a bracelet.

Representing the sun’s vitality and energy, there are a total of 24 pieces in this collection, showcasing the brilliance of the sun through gold, platinum, and yellow diamonds. The “Soleil 19 Août” necklace is magnificent yet versatile, featuring a stunning 22.10 carat cushion-cut fancy vivid yellow diamond that can be detached from the necklace and worn as a ring.

The Allure Céleste necklace is the iconic piece of this collection, bringing together the elements of stars, moons, and suns to explore the core meaning of light. Using round-cut diamonds, paired with a deep and rich 55.55-carat oval-cut sapphire, and an approximately 8.05-carat Type IIa DFL pear-cut diamond, this convertible piece features a detachable halo that can be worn as a brooch, with the middle row of diamonds able to be wrapped into a bracelet or shorten the necklace length. These designs pay homage to the creations introduced by Mademoiselle Chanel in 1932, allowing women to be adorned with celestial beauty.
