Princess Beatrice, the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II and the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew, quietly married real estate tycoon Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi last Friday. Affected by the pandemic, this royal wedding, originally scheduled for May this year, has been postponed and no public wedding arrangements have been announced. Now, the sudden low-key marriage has surprised and delighted many royal fans!
Princess Beatrice’s wedding took place at the Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor Castle, with only about 20 close friends and family in attendance. Of course, the Queen and Prince Philip were also present to bless the couple. However, in terms of scale, this is definitely the most low-key royal wedding in recent years, likely due to the impact of the pandemic and somewhat related to the scandal involving Prince Andrew’s association with Jeffrey Epstein’s underage victims in the United States.
Although Princess Beatrice’s wedding ceremony was not as grand as her sister Princess Eugenie’s, or her cousins Prince William and Prince Harry’s, she still managed to steal the spotlight with one dress! Princess Beatrice’s wedding dress was not designed by a famous designer, nor was it a luxurious Haute Couture piece from a big brand. Instead, it was a dress worn by the Queen 58 years ago, even the diamond-encrusted crown on her head was borrowed from her grandmother!
This wedding dress, adorned with crystals and aquamarines, was worn by the Queen of England at the premiere of the movie “Lawrence of Arabia” in 1962, designed by the royal couturier Norman Hartnell at the time. Princess Beatrice invited the current royal couturier Angela Kelly to add romantic and ethereal chiffon princess sleeves to the gown, giving it a bridal feel. The diamond-studded crown worn by the Queen was the “Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara” worn by her during her wedding in 1947, a symbol of tradition and a blessing from the Queen.
