M+ Cinema has been providing a diverse film viewing experience since its opening, featuring a selection of international art films and classic Hong Kong productions to satisfy the tastes of different movie enthusiasts. This summer, they are focusing on screening independent masterpieces from the 1960s to the 1990s in the Asian region that have significant milestones. In addition, M+ Cinema is also showcasing Ann Hui’s early career with films such as “The Story of Woo Viet” and “Boat People”. Here are a few must-see films that we have selected for you!
盧子英《昏睡作家》(1980)
随着动画继续在全球复兴，M+戏院呈献「亚洲动画先驱」此具有里程碑意义的节目，颂扬1960年代至1990年代亚洲独立动画发展过程中重要的时刻。这系列聚焦卢子英（生于1960年），一位来自香港自学成才的独立动画师，他涉猎多种动画技术，包括传统手绘动画、定格动画，以及盐沙动画等。M+馆藏中11件卢子英的作品，将首次经修复后展出，今次《昏睡作家》便是其中一套动画师的得意之作。
袁建滔《麦兜故事》(2001)
「鲜眼界」系列将适合家庭和儿童的有趣内容带到M+，让年轻观众通过电影享受和了解文化。袁建滔作品《麦兜故事》（2001）讲述了麦兜这个在香港人心中占有特殊地位的动画角色的故事，令大家产生集体共鸣。
马飞斯弗力《安藤忠雄：从虚空到无限》(2013)
“Creators and Events” is a series of documentaries and essay films that focus on introducing the individuals and stories behind creative practices. This season’s program focuses on architecture, with the film “Tadao Ando: From Void to Infinity” by Ma Feisu (born in 1969), which introduces the renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, known for his exquisite and minimalist designs that have won numerous awards.
許鞍華《胡越的故事》（1981）及《投奔怒海》（1982）
M+ Theater will screen two early works by renowned Hong Kong director Ann Hui (born in 1947) as part of its 2023 summer program, including the classic films “Boat People” (1981) and “The Story of Woo Viet” (1982), which were instrumental in the Hong Kong New Wave movement of the 1980s. These films showcase Ann Hui’s focus on the lives of Vietnamese boat people in Hong Kong during the 1980s.

方育平《半边人》(1983)
「台阶夜幕」放映系列──「美丽失败者」呈献一系列捕捉青春文化和年轻人在生活上的挣扎的电影。方育平的纪实电影《半边人》（1983）诉说一位少女在梦想与现实之间的挣扎。
罗卓瑶 《赤地》(2010)
「鈎沉與遺珠」常設系列繼續帶來滄海遺珠之佳作及修復經典。《放眼香港》（2010–2016）放映四部罕見的香港國際電影節短片，它們分別由四位亞洲導演在香港拍攝，這四人是蔡明亮（生於1957年）、阿比查邦．韋拉斯塔古（生於1970年）、羅卓瑤（生於1957年）和麥曦茵（生於1984年）。由羅卓瑤指導，吳彥祖參演的《赤地》亦將上映。
