Fortnum & Mason’s first photography exhibition, “Port of Light,” is officially open today at the 181 Fortnum & Mason restaurant in K11 Musea, Hong Kong!
The exhibition features works by the renowned London street photographer Alan Schaller, who has over 1 million followers. This artist excels in black and white photography, and his work is not only popular on social media platforms but has also been featured in media such as The Guardian, The New York Times Magazine, The Washington Post, The Financial Times, and the South China Morning Post. Alan’s work has been exhibited internationally, with recent exhibitions at the Saatchi Gallery in London, Leica Gallery in Boston and Washington, Edit Space in Milan, and Leica Gallery in Sydney and Melbourne.
However, since last year’s photography exhibition at the 3’6 Bar in London’s Piccadilly, he has become a close partner of Fortnum’s; and this time the photography exhibition has come to Hong Kong, where he has specially displayed 8 works, all taken from Hong Kong’s iconic spaces and venues, such as sailboats on Victoria Harbour, capturing and showcasing the unique essence of Hong Kong through the lens.

Follow your heart, but not casually
These works embody his personal style, incorporating abstract elements into surrealism and geometry, combining the realities of human life with diverse elements, presented in high contrast images to the audience. Today, Alan also held a photography tour, sharing his photography experiences and techniques with photography enthusiasts, making the process very interesting. One of the most special things is how he described his habit of carrying a camera: he just casually holds it, not hanging it around his neck. Later, when a photography enthusiast asked him how to FOCUS, he simply and confidently said, “I just know it,” making everyone present burst into laughter; he also occasionally acts as a model, allowing everyone to practice the techniques he teaches on the spot, very friendly!
And this time in Hong Kong, he is also very happy. Alan Schaller describes Hong Kong like this:
