In the 1980s, during the heyday of street art in New York, Richard Hambleton, known as the “Godfather of New York Street Art,” was one of the representative artists. His mysterious and captivating silhouette portraits were incredibly powerful. This January, HKwalls will hold his first exhibition in Hong Kong, titled “Richard Hambleton: The Last Shadows,” showcasing a series of fascinating and classic works by Richard Hambleton, including never-before-seen artworks.

As a pioneer in the street art world, Richard Hambleton’s mysterious and haunting silhouette portraits have left an indelible mark worldwide. From his early work “An Attitude” to his self-portraits in later years, they all reflect Richard Hambleton’s profound interpretation of the gradual decline of the body, depicting his deteriorating physical condition.

Richard Hambleton’s later selected works include a pair of standing silhouettes called “Take This and I’ll Kill You” and hidden yellow “shadow figures”; after departing from the mysterious black shadow image on a white background, Richard Hambleton actively explores bold use of colors.

The exhibition is curated by street art enthusiasts and collectors Edward Straka, Alasdair Pitt, and HKwalls. It will showcase Richard Hambleton’s captivating collection of artworks, including previously unreleased pieces, allowing viewers to delve deep into the evolution of the “Shadowman” and Hambleton’s personal quest.

“Richard Hambleton: The Last Shadows”
Exhibition Period: January 11th to January 28th
Address: 33 Des Voeux Road West, Soho House, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong
