If you want to count the rising stars in the Japanese art scene in recent years, it is undoubtedly Yanyuuki Koichi. Although he has only been in the art world for a short two years, he has already held solo exhibitions in Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. His works have also been successfully auctioned at Sotheby’s, Bonhams, and SBI Art Auction, highlighting the increasing recognition of his works in the art world.
Unlike emerging artists who tend to lean towards modern art styles, Yui Iri’s artistic style is influenced by Western cartoons from the 1950s, such as “Tom & Jerry,” “The Addams Family,” and “SpongeBob SquarePants.” He excels at creating artwork in a retro cartoon style with monochromatic tones, which has successfully set him apart among the new generation of artists. His three GHOST characters and their surreal adventures have garnered widespread acclaim in the art world.
Recently, he held his first solo exhibition in Hong Kong called “The Three Hunters and the Stone Chronicles”. Inspired by the experiment of “Five Monkeys and a Banana”, he created the story of “The Three Hunters and the Stone Chronicles” and made it the theme of this exhibition, hoping to provoke reflection on the different customs we follow through the story.
