Art and watchmaking have various ways of communicating, not only through encounters on the dial but also through exhibitions and other means of dialogue. Recently, Vacheron Constantin partnered with auction house Phillips to hold an exhibition called “LESS’ENTIAL – Art of Our Times”.
Vacheron Constantin has always placed great emphasis on art and culture, as seen in their Métiers d’Art series, which focuses on decorative craftsmanship, as well as their collaborations with various museums. This exhibition explores the themes of women, art, and time. Vacheron Constantin has selected ladies’ watches from different eras of the brand and paired them with modern watches inspired by these works, showcasing the evolution of ladies’ watches from ancient times to the present.
And Phillips also drew inspiration from these watches, selecting works by highly sought-after female artists in the world today, including Yayoi Kusama, Miriam Cahn, Claire Tabouret, Caroline Walker, Oh de Laval, Rei Imai, Daisy Dodd-Noble, and Chao Chiting. These works are displayed alongside the watches to convey the connection between art and watchmaking.
