Belgian-Hong Kong artist Hilde Mertens, who is originally from Belgium, was a investment banker. Four years ago, by chance, Hilde had the opportunity to meet the famous Hong Kong ink master Mr. Wong Pui Kong, and was deeply attracted by his superb artistic accomplishment and bold painting style. Since then, she has formed an indescribable bond with Chinese calligraphy and art.
Hilde seeks inspiration from traditional calligraphy and ink painting masters, exploring their fluent brushwork and poetic sentiments. She depicts the vitality of life through abstract concepts, showcasing exceptional ink techniques that are elegant and unique. Hilde gracefully reinterprets ancient poetry and artwork, transforming her brushstrokes into contemporary abstract art that embodies a desire for innovation.
Recently, the Hong Kong Cyberport Amy Hotel collaborated with her to hold the “Rhythm of Strokes” solo exhibition in the Sunset VIP Hall from now until September 30th. The exhibition showcases 13 meticulously created ink paintings by Hilde Mertens, allowing everyone to experience contemporary art created by the elegant brushstrokes inspired by 3,000 years of Chinese calligraphy.
