The Hong Kong Museum of Art is currently holding the “Stylish Treasures – Hong Kong Museum of Art Collection Exhibition”, showcasing nearly a hundred ancient and contemporary artworks from around the world. The exhibition is divided into four sections: “Elegant and Refined”, “Exquisite Perfection”, “Fashionably Sharp”, and “Adventurous Exploration”.
Key exhibits include Wu Guanzhong’s “Sea Breeze,” Lin Yousen’s “Iron Tree,” a Qing Kangxi blue and white water wave dragon pattern jar, a Northern Song Fujian Jianyang kiln black glaze rabbit hair pattern tea bowl, Zhang Wei’s “Spring‧Fan Kuan vs. Duchamp,” etc. The art museum has also invited two Hong Kong artists, Ruan Jiayi and Li Baoyi, to create new site-specific art installations inspired by the museum’s collection.
Among them, Ngan Ga-yee created a rotating “Where to Land” using ready-made objects, combined with projected lighting, creating a dreamy scene on the wall, which represents her understanding of Hong Kong’s multiculturalism.
And paper-cut artist Li Baoyi, due to frequent travel between Hong Kong and Los Angeles, her work “Bird Language. Flower Fragrance” uses hand-cut layers to create a ripple effect in a large pond, and uses augmented reality to construct a world of bird language and flower fragrance, promoting Chinese traditional craftsmanship with a modern aesthetic, reflecting her longing for her homeland in a foreign land.
