Have you seen works that use the same technique to create static images as you have seen in time-lapse videos? Pelle Cass, a photography artist from Boston, USA, has gained recognition for his unique “static time-lapse photography” works. Recently, he will bring his first solo exhibition in Asia to the Hong Kong audience, showcasing his first artwork with “Hong Kong” as the theme. It is highly anticipated!
This exhibition is curated by the art curatorial team WAY by Way of difference and features a total of 15 artworks, including Pelle Cass’s iconic series “Crowded Fields” which explores different sports themes, as well as 5 new works making their first appearance in the public eye.

Pelle Cass’s work creates a sense of chaos between time and space. He captures a passage of time in a static single image, breaking the laws of chronological order, while embracing the disorder of multiple temporal and spatial occurrences, making his work more captivating. Pelle Cass takes over a thousand photos and then combines selected individuals to achieve the final effect. In this process, in order to preserve the details of the original image, he hasn’t even changed a single pixel. All he does is choose what to retain and omit, and all the content remains intact in its original position.
These photos contain various sports, street images, dancing, fashion, and more, and are a true record that spans hours. These photos show many situations happening simultaneously, and contain more information than traditional static photos. Pelle Cass is like a collage artist or painter, but the raw material for his work comes from real shooting information. In this new form, he conveys a sense of playfulness and a chaotic feeling that is filled with the mysteries of time.
It is worth noting that this time, the artist and the curatorial team of WAY by Way of difference collaborated remotely, spending two days shooting over 23,800 photos at a popular photography spot in Hong Kong, and then spending over 2 weeks selecting 1,203 photos for post-production. Want to know which popular spot in Hong Kong attracted him to create? Then you must personally visit the exhibition to find out!
