The Patek Photography Award Exhibition lands in Hong Kong! Top photographers from multiple countries capture the powerful “fire” through their lenses.

Prix Pictet fire

The Prix Pictet is an internationally renowned photography award that aims to raise global awareness of sustainable development issues through the power of photography. Recently, the winning works of the ninth edition of the Prix Pictet, with the theme “Fire,” have been exhibited in Hong Kong, officially landing at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center. The exhibition showcases the works of 13 shortlisted photographers from Austria, Belgium, Benin, Cambodia, Japan, Lebanon, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa, Switzerland, and the United States.

Since the devastating fire at Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris in early 2019, “fire” has rarely left the news. We have witnessed record-breaking wildfires in the Amazon region, the Australian bushfires, and the raging wildfires in California, witnessing the immense power of fire.

Stephen Barber, Chairman of the Pictorial Photography Awards, said, “Fire is the fourth element in the Five Elements, it can bring destruction, but also awaken renewal. Fire signifies survival, change, and economic prosperity. However, the misuse of this most capricious element is the root cause of most environmental problems. Following the successful exhibitions in Shanghai and Beijing in 2021, we are delighted to showcase the outstanding works of the world’s top photographers to the audience in Hong Kong, hoping that this powerful exhibition can touch every viewer and inspire new inspiration.”

This time, the Patek Photography Awards had over 600 photographers nominated for the prestigious honor. After a thorough evaluation and screening process, the judging panel ultimately selected 13 finalists. Ms. Sally Mann, with her series “Black Water” (2008-2012), stood out among the photographers. Her work explores the Great Dismal Swamp, spanning across Virginia and North Carolina, from multiple perspectives. This treacherous swamp has historically served as a refuge for escaped slaves and has since suffered significant damage from multiple wildfires.

The exhibition also includes numerous renowned photographers whose works draw inspiration from global events and personal experiences. They cover various forms such as documentary, portrait, landscape, collage, as well as academic research on light and photographic printing. It is highly recommended for everyone to personally visit and appreciate!
