When you see these giant fruit sculptures, do you feel a sense of familiarity? Hong Kong audiences are likely familiar with the works of Chinese sculptor and installation artist Fee Mingjie, as his installation works have been featured at both the Hong Kong Art Museum and this year’s Basel Hong Kong exhibition. Most recently, the Alisan Fine Arts Gallery presents Fee Mingjie’s solo exhibition “Walking into Nature,” showcasing his iconic creations as well as debuting the “Wishing Bone Series” and “Tai Chi Figures Series” in Hong Kong for the first time.
The exhibition features classic works such as “Money Tree” and giant sculptures of fruits, nuts, and surreal vegetables. This exhibition can be seen as an extension of Fei’s “Garden of Life” exhibited at Art Basel Hong Kong 2022, where viewers are surrounded by large installations, as if entering an extraordinary Eden.
Fei Mingjie is currently most famous for his large-scale fruit sculptures and mixed-media installation art. His sculptures use metal and paper, created in a suspended and rotatable manner, rich in cultural colors, presenting an elegant and innovative style. This exhibition also brings early sketches that inspired his famous fruit sculptures, allowing everyone to appreciate the artist’s creative process and transformation.
