Using the sunset as a metaphor for “letting go,” installation artist Wang Zhiyong will exhibit his latest multi-sensory experience piece “Illusion of Sunset” at the end of the month!

Facing the sunset, what do you think of? The sunset is infinitely beautiful, but it’s also close to dusk. The quiet moments often bring about turbulent thoughts.

Artist Wang Zhiyong uses “sunset” as a metaphor for “letting go,” both fleeting and elusive, but perhaps in a brief moment, it will stay in your heart and give meaning. Following “One Flower, One Paradise,” “Memoirs of Twilight” is his latest sensory experiential installation. Inspired by exploring contemplative spaces, the artwork responds to his meditative research through artistic creation.

This production combines stage art and lighting technology, creating a space where the audience can relax and let their minds wander, allowing them to enter a state of meditation. Wong also invited dancers Leung Kin Fung and Tsang King Fai to create a series of improvised dance performances for the art installation. Starting from the concepts of “movement,” “observation,” and “stillness,” the two express their feelings towards the installation through their bodies, giving the audience a different perspective to rediscover their visual, auditory, and tactile senses.

Wang Zhiyong is a cross-disciplinary artist and curator. His work includes experiential installations, light installations, and creative education, dedicated to the exchange between art and science. He has collaborated with institutions such as the Theatre de Liege in Belgium, West Kowloon Cultural District, Hong Kong Arts Centre, ETH Zurich, Zurich University of the Arts Institute for Cultural Studies, and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He was also selected as the 2020 Art Researcher by Yale University in the United States, responsible for planning and exploring projects related to art and mental health.
