Titled “Walking in the Wilderness,” Qin Feng launched a highly anticipated solo exhibition at the Leo Gallery in Hong Kong, showcasing his 30-year artistic career spanning East and West. Qin Feng is regarded as an important figure in Chinese avant-garde art and an innovator in traditional Chinese ink painting. His works are inclusive yet dynamic, blending the romance of Western expressionist philosophy with the charm of Chinese calligraphy.
Qin Feng’s creations bring together reflections on the Tao of heaven and earth in Eastern philosophy, while also revealing a powerful energy of Western expressionism. The large-scale ink paintings that go beyond the body allow him to transform traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting into a form of cross-cultural abstract expressionism. At the same time, Qin Feng’s creations embody the characteristics of multimedia and multiple materials. His use of contemporary media has transformed ink painting into a comprehensive art form that combines traditional craftsmanship with the contemporary cultural landscape, thus establishing a three-dimensional space of “postmodern ink painting.”
This exhibition will showcase representative works from different stages of Qin Feng’s creative career, presenting the experimental exploration process of constructing his personal “postmodern ink painting” style. From “the limits of growth” to “desirescape,” the audience will witness Qin Feng’s artistic language and creative propositions that fluctuate between Chinese and Western cultures.
The Qin wind shuttles between traditional and contemporary, between conception and realization, between ideas and actions, in its creation. As it says, it is a cultural journey that crosses the wilderness and connects the East and West. Through this exhibition, it is hoped that viewers can enter the dialogue space between the Eastern context constructed by the artist and Western forms of expression.
