In 2019, the Taiwan Gallery of the Sun International Print Exhibition began showcasing original print works by the father of Taiwanese printmaking, Liao Xiu Ping, alongside original prints by three major Spanish artists: Picasso, Miró, and Dalí; followed by the 2000 release of Miró’s classic original lithograph series “Childhood in Ubú” created when he was 82 years old; and in 2021, the exhibition featured an important Jewish religious commemorative work by Chagall, the original glass mosaic “Jerusalem Windows Series,” bringing carefully curated and rarely seen exciting content to audiences every year.
Stepping into the summer of 2022, the Yoho Gallery presents Salvador Dali’s original etching “The Song of Songs of King Solomon,” created in Japan in 1971, consisting of a total of 12 pieces. This is a love poem from the Bible, interpreted by the artist from a perspective of symbolism and meaning, understanding the essence of love with passion and intensity, as well as the joy and struggles of love.
Dali chose etching as the creative technique that best showcases the “beauty of lines,” using lines as fine as hair to depict the visual appearance of the Song of Solomon, which is as concise and rhythmic as poetry. Afterwards, hand-painting and gold leaf are applied to create a noble and magnificent radiance like that of King Solomon.
Collecting a complete set of prints is extremely difficult, making them especially precious. Many classic works have become the centerpiece of art museums and the most proud heirlooms of collectors. In this exhibition, in addition to showcasing the rare complete set of “The Song of Solomon” by Dali, it also simultaneously displays classic series from Chagall’s “Daphnis and Chloe” and “Jerusalem Windows” series, allowing viewers to step into the world of complete prints that have captivated countless collectors.
