K11 MUSEA Art Karnival

The annual art event, K11 MUSEA Art Karnival, known for its acclaim, has officially begun. This year’s event will showcase a series of world-class art masterpieces, with exciting works spread across various floors of K11 MUSEA for everyone to discover slowly!

The focus of this year’s art exhibition includes the first exhibition held in Hong Kong by the acclaimed newcomer photographer Li Xiaoliang, who is considered one of the hottest in the fashion world: Li Xiaoliang’s “Three Exhibitions”. The exhibition showcases 3 series, including: “Back to Black”, “Beijing Apartment”, and “Lonely Planet”, exploring three distances between photography and people. “Back to Black” focuses on close-up portraits of international hall-of-fame film and television celebrities, where the audience can see many familiar superstar faces.

Another highlight – the first illusion cake shop in Hong Kong, “Cake Illusions,” adds a playful touch of humor and surprise to Art Karnival. Founded by local baking brand Dear Harley Bakery’s founder and illusion cake art master Alison Chan, a series of lifelike illusion cakes are handcrafted, with over 20 daily items shaped cakes displayed in the venue. Some cakes are placed on a 6-meter long table, themed “After party,” mixing real items for display.

Another highly anticipated work is the large-scale art installation “I hope…” created by Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota from Osaka, which spans 12 meters. This large-scale art installation, created during the pandemic, consists of a steel ship installation, a large amount of red string, and 5,000 handwritten wish letters from people around the world, with small boats sailing in the sea of wishes. Chiharu Shiota hopes to remind visitors through this work to still hold onto hope when facing uncertain situations.

Another highlight of the exhibition is the work “The Eve” by Canadian sculptor David Altmejd, known for his intricate and detailed work. The striking visual experience leaves a lasting impression. “The Eve” is composed of a suspended, inverted seated figure. This lonely sculpture is placed in a space made of multiple layers of glass, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior, surface and structure, reality and abstraction, prompting viewers to reflect on the symmetrical relationship between the human body and architecture.

Visitors can also step into the large art installation “Studio” by Chinese contemporary artist Zhang Enli, this 9-square-meter piece was created in 2018. By replicating his old studio in Shanghai from his youth, he reflects on the hardships of life and struggles with the path of art at that time, further exploring the relationship between the past and the present.

During the exhibition, visitors can sign up for a free art guided tour to understand the creative ideas behind each featured artwork. Come visit K11 MUSEA now and enjoy this rich art feast together!
