The relationship between art and fashion has always been inseparable. In order to bring galleries closer to emerging collectors, the fashion industry closer to fashion enthusiasts, Sotheby’s Hong Kong unprecedentedly collaborates with NET-A-PORTER to present “Contemporary Curated” contemporary art auction, showcasing the most sought-after works of art by contemporary artists and a variety of trendy fashion designs from top fashion brands, breaking boundaries and initiating a dialogue that transcends visual and conceptual boundaries between the art and fashion worlds!
The exhibition brings together the hottest artists of the moment, including outstanding works by artists such as Rokko Aki, Hwan Kin, Christine Ay Tjoe, Eddie Martinez, Tomokazu Matsuyama, as well as carefully selected avant-garde fashion clothing, accessories, and home furnishings from NET-A-PORTER and MR PORTER.
Gucci, TOM FORD, Loro Piana, and Jacquemus and other major new brands are also exhibiting their exquisite designs at the event, where artworks complement trendy fashion designs, bringing viewers a fresh artistic experience.
The art exhibition is led by Tetsuya Ishida’s “Man on a Conveyor Belt”. This Japanese artist has only created 217 paintings in his short ten-year artistic career, highlighting the preciousness of his work. This piece showcases the artist’s distinctive Kafkaesque style, delving into the dark clouds shrouding society after the burst of the Japanese economic bubble, as well as the insignificance of the working class.
Liang Yuanwei is known for her intricate and detailed floral patterns. “2015.07” and “2015.10” showcase her superb painting skills and complex creative concepts. She layers colors on the canvas, similar to the techniques used in traditional murals, making the process intricate and meticulous. Once completed, the surface of the artwork resembles satin, evoking thoughts of a floral dress that women can’t resist, shimmering subtly in the sunlight.
Through this collaboration, we see that luxury fashion and artistic masterpieces can inspire each other, infiltrate daily life, and then spark a wonderful cross-border visual exchange. Whether you love fashion or art, you cannot miss this exciting exhibition!
