Street art is spontaneous and casual, while textile art emphasizes patience and meticulous craftsmanship. What kind of spark can these seemingly unrelated things collide to create? Recently, local knitwear manufacturer Loro Group and D2 Place once again partnered with French May, collaborating with street art gallery L’Epicerie Fine HK and three Hong Kong-French artists to exhibit their street art pieces and corresponding knitwear pieces, bringing everyone a novel art fusion!
The participating artists this time include Hong Kong artist Bao Ho, and French artists Binokl and Le Cyklop. In the exhibition “From Street Art to Knitting”, we will see 15 pieces of work, including flat paper, digital sketches, to three-dimensional sculptures, and 15 original knitted artworks produced by the Roche Group’s Roche Knit.
Artist Bao Ho vividly portrays urban life, various human experiences, and quirky animal characters with rich imagination; Binokl’s creative inspiration mostly comes from underground music, first-generation street artists like Basquiat or Mist, and he excels in using spray paint and acrylic on paper for his creations.
Le Cyklop draws inspiration from toys, comics, African art, and the animal kingdom to create fun, trendy, and often interactive art projects. His furniture installations can be found on the streets of France, prompting a reevaluation of the use of public spaces.
Roche knitwear this time will transform the works of three street artists into original flat and three-dimensional knitwear art, successfully introducing textile elements into the street art scene, definitely opening everyone’s eyes!
