M+ recently installed the multimedia work “The Convergence of Light” created by Hong Kong art pioneer Samson Young on its facade to celebrate Hong Kong Art Month. This is a commissioned project in collaboration with M+ and Art Basel, and will be exhibited on the M+ facade every evening from now until June 19, 2022, from 7pm to 9pm. In addition, the organizers will also bring a series of exciting screening activities and lectures during the art fair, which will be introduced one by one below!
The work uses digital animation special effects to explore the possibilities of the tangible and intangible, transforming light into digitally rich artistic creations. This video work expresses the familiar Mahayana Buddhist classic “Heart Sutra” in sign language, creating a work rich in religious ritual meaning, prompting contemplation of the profound truth “form is emptiness, emptiness is form.” As the light inside the M+ office intertwines with the light on the curtain wall, the presentation of “The Condensation of Light” symbolizes guidance and hope for the Hong Kong audience.
“Light Condensation: Pao Ai-lun Live Performance” uses sound and light as materials and energy to create a healing space in the city. Co-produced by sound artist Ren Shanwang, lighting designer Chen Yiyun, stage performance consultant Ye Yilei, and producer and coder Huang Tingzhi. In the production process, Pao Ai-lun returned to the origin of her passion for moving images – experimental theater.
Over the past thirty years, Bao Ailun has been dedicated to exploring the relationship between humanity and nature. Through the flexible and alternating use of sound and visual elements, her work stimulates our perception of different frequencies, including the potential energy between people, the subtle rhythms of the city, and the echoes of urban history.
