When we live in a technological urban environment, rarely do we have contact with the original nature. Have you ever deliberately thought about your relationship with the natural environment? Pace Gallery recently presents the solo exhibition “Birds on a Boat” by French artist Jules de Balincourt, showcasing through his mysterious and fantastical magnificent landscapes, the state of humanity attempting to coexist in an ever-changing environment.
Jules de Balincourt is known for his colorful and radiant style of work, which explores the artist’s reflections on the dynamics of globalization, politics, and culture within landscape-themed pieces. This exhibition will showcase 12 paintings, each rich in color, presenting the artist’s ideal beautiful landscapes. Various figures enter these landscapes, seeking the relationship between themselves and the natural world.
This artist paints in an intuitive, stream-of-consciousness manner, so most of the works are filled with mysterious and ambiguous colors. Several pieces in “Birds on a Boat” feature the artist’s iconic nomadic characters, who appear small amidst dense forests, turbulent coastlines, and various natural environments. Whether they are relaxed or desperate deep down, the artist leaves it up to the audience to interpret.
The artist injects extraordinary and dreamlike qualities into the painting through the power of color and imaginative composition. Jules de Balincourt’s strong style evokes the styles of Fauvism and German Expressionism, and under such fluid and free brushstrokes, it immerses the audience in exploring the themes of human vulnerability and environmental flux.
Visitors are welcome to explore the exhibition, delving into the artist’s imaginative world to discover the relationship between nature and humanity.
