Everyone has a blueprint of an ideal life in their hearts, some yearn for the bustling metropolitan life, while others prefer a return to the simple life of nature. For Korean artist Kang Jun Seok, his imagined utopia not only has beautiful natural scenery, but also a group of adorable characters that seem to have stepped out of a fairy tale world!
Gallery Ascend and LKIF Gallery recently presented Kang Jun Seok’s first overseas exhibition “My Mate in HK,” allowing Hong Kong audiences the opportunity to step into the artist’s dreamy world and stroll through the lush greenery with his adorable characters!
Born in 1984, Kang Jun Seok grew up in Busan, South Korea, and was drawn to the beautiful scenery of Hallasan on Jeju Island. He decided to settle on this beautiful island. The rich natural landscapes there coincided with his ideals, and every day, surrounded by the blue sea and sky, he found more creative inspiration. His works seem to be infused with the natural energy of Jeju Island, creating a dreamy world detached from the mundane.
His painting style combines soft and delicate colors with gentle brushstrokes, making his works appear as if surrounded by a mist, presenting a dreamy and enchanting feeling. In addition to incorporating natural and landscape elements into his works, the artist uses a playful imagination to create mysterious child or animal characters, serving as guardian spirits of this place, adding more vitality to this dreamy kingdom!
The gallery has specially designed the exhibition space to be filled with green plants to complement the artist’s envisioned world, allowing the audience to get closer to the creator’s living environment and immerse themselves in the beautiful and pure realm depicted in the artworks.
