Abstract brushstrokes paint the colorful “Mirror of the Sky”! Sylvia So presents “Stillness in Motion” with intense colors.

When emotions and thoughts cannot be expressed in words, is it a good idea to use colors and paintings instead? Curated by ARTICKS, local artist Sylvia So’s latest solo exhibition “Silent Motion” will be held at 13a New Street. In her works, Sylvia shows us a highly spatial abstract world, without the need for figurative outlines. Through the flow of colors, she leads us to understand her inner state, allowing the audience to explore their own “inner space” in a misty and mysterious atmosphere.

Sylvia uses a unique touch to overlap the translucent state and rich vibrant colors in her work, depicting the form of air. Although the composition presents a sense of unreality, her use of color is intense and powerful. With the change of tones, we occasionally feel a heavy and dense atmosphere in the artist’s work, and when the colors are lighter, the momentum of the picture also softens, bringing a calm silence, allowing people to feel an intangible “weightless stillness.”

In a screen without a theme, what exactly is the artist depicting? Sylvia often uses abstract techniques to paint the state of nature, expressing creative thoughts in the contrast of colors and the changes of colors, such as in the “Cloud” series and “Changing Sky.” In these works, the artist uses a brush to record the subtle changes in the clouds and the red and blue colors reflected in the sky, expressing admiration for nature and contemplation of oneself, space, and the universe through brushstrokes.

In addition, each work also has a short text recording the artist’s thoughts, allowing the audience to experience Sylvia’s inner contradictions, struggles, compromises, settling, and harmony together from the text and the work.

As the audience gradually understands the artist’s creative mindset in the work, their thoughts unconsciously merge into the work. Sylvia’s work is like a mirror of the sky, not only carrying magnificent colors itself, but also allowing people to see their own shadows in it. You may visit the exhibition, and in the process of exploring the artist’s creative meaning, also sort out your own emotions.
