Simon Birch’s exhibition features the most expensive NFT in Hong Kong, and also collaborates with a ceramic artist for the first time!

British-born artist Simon Birch, based in Hong Kong, has gained international fame through the large-scale multimedia art collaboration project “The 14th Factory.” This is a collection of multimedia installations and art activities that encourage social participation, with content that may vary depending on the exhibition location. As early as 2020, there was news that this project would be coming to Hong Kong, and now we finally have the latest updates on Birch’s exhibition!

Located in Tai Kwun, Touch Gallery invites Simon Birch to present the latest work “Kong” from the multimedia art collaboration project “The 14th Factory”, showcasing a new face of local art.

Simon Birch is known for his large-scale installations and interactive works, but his iconic character portraits are also highly regarded. In his latest exhibition, Birch will present a series of dynamic oil paintings for local audiences. Using basic brushes, paints, and canvas, his paintings depict abstract yet lifelike figures that appear both still and in motion. The visual effects resemble frozen moments of certain moving images, exuding a dynamic energy and a captivating allure.

Birch is also exhibiting the first and most expensive NFT artwork in Hong Kong at this exhibition, showcasing 24 years of artistic creation at the grand art event “The 14th Factory”.

Besides paintings, Birch also collaborates with local renowned ceramic artists Xie Shuting and Liu Yiwei to create ceramic crowns. Crowns symbolize the highest position of power and authority, yet the nature of ceramics is fragile and brittle. The symbolic contradiction and opposition between material and object showcase the powerful yet fragile nature of authority.
