Highlights of “Art Basel 2021”: Aaron Kwok’s calligraphy works, Fung Ying Ying NFT, and the opening of the Hong Kong Palace Museum’s art treasures!

Stepping into October, the local art scene is gradually heating up, with the “Fine Art Asia 2021” held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre becoming the focus of the art world! This season’s art fair has many highlights, not only bringing together high-quality local and international art and antique collections as usual, but also for the first time collaborating with artists to present NFT works, inviting local artists to create new artworks inspired by antiques, and being the first to showcase some of the collections from the Hong Kong Palace Museum, attracting many local celebrities and art enthusiasts to show their support!

Although the number of overseas exhibitors participating in the expo has decreased sharply due to travel restrictions, the organizers will assist some galleries in participating remotely this year. Mr. He Guoqiang, the founder of De Yart Expo, stated that despite the impact of the epidemic, Hong Kong has established a stable domestic market, and some galleries have also received sponsorship from Hong Kong institutions, allowing them to participate in the grand event together.

Local galleries or art institutions participating include Hanart TZ Gallery, Ming Gallery, Fangyuan Art Museum, Rossi & Rossi, Ink Society, Soluna Fine Art, Dongfeng Hall, Paris Wahya Antique Jewelry, etc., bringing audiences a series of exciting art, antiques, and jewelry exhibits.

Multimedia artist Simon Ma also exhibited calligraphy, ink paintings, sculptures, and other works with a horse theme at the expo. His creation, Drago Cavallo, is uniquely styled, blending Eastern and Western cultures. The first day of the expo also saw friends such as Aaron Kwok, Alex Fong, Joyce Lee, Yumiko Cheung, Bernice Liu, and Law Lan showing their support.

Chengcheng and Simon have been good friends for many years, and they often get together to write and draw. This time, they each exhibited a collaborative piece, as well as a calligraphy work “Dragon Horse” completed by Chengcheng alone, which became one of the highlights of the exhibition.

In addition, artist Fung Ying-ying also stepped into the NFT field for the first time, presenting three personally designed crystal bracelets named “Crystal. Condensation” for this exhibition, she said the entire series is themed around the journey of life. The three crystal bracelets include “Yingzi” (limited to 12 pieces), “Spring Flower” (limited to 12 pieces), and “Fei Zhen” (limited to 1 piece). Buyers can exchange one bracelet for one NFT at the De Yayi Art Expo 2021 during the exhibition period.

The Hong Kong Palace Museum, which will open in July next year, also set up an exhibition hall at the expo, where visitors can first appreciate the charm of the Hong Kong Palace Museum architecture, participate in various creative cultural activities, and get a sneak peek at the artistic treasures that will be showcased at the opening exhibition next year. During the expo, lectures and discussions will be held by the museum director and other key personnel involved in the construction of the museum, such as researchers, curators, designers, and artists, sharing their latest research and creative achievements, as well as the fascinating stories behind the museum’s preparation work.

In addition, the booth is equipped with guided tours, performances, and demonstrations, among which the demonstration will introduce the restoration of Chinese calligraphy and painting with a history of over a thousand years. The audience can personally understand the restoration techniques and the functions of materials and tools. The rich prelude program makes the audience look forward to the official opening of the museum next year even more.

This year’s “Dianya Art Expo 2021” has seen many breakthroughs, especially in the introduction of electronic technology. From originally focusing on selling antiques and jewelry, to gradually incorporating contemporary art, and now for the first time introducing NFT works this year. It is evident that the expo has been adjusting its direction in response to market needs, allowing it to provide a more comprehensive range of high-quality artworks for art enthusiasts!
