The new Pantone color “Hong Kong Tram Green” is here! The “Ding Ding” limited-time store brings multiple photo spots and a typography art exhibition!

In addition to the annual colors “Ultimate Gray” and “Illuminating Yellow,” “Hong Kong Tram Green” will be the Pantone hue you need to know! Hong Kong Tram has recently partnered with the Pantone Color Institute to create and name the most iconic deep green color for tram bodies, as well as introducing the “Hong Kong Tram World Record Limited Time Store,” where you can get your hands on a variety of limited edition “Ding Ding” merchandise, visit the exhibition, and enjoy taking photos!

Since the 1940s, Hong Kong trams have been using leftover post-war dark green paint to decorate the bodies of locally manufactured double-decker tram fleets. Today, this dark green color has become a deeply ingrained symbol, so it has been specially named to pay tribute to this tram color. “Hong Kong Tram Green” gives people a fresh, energetic, comfortable, and harmonious impression, representing the calm and relaxed journey that trams bring to passengers, while also connecting communities.

“The Ding Ding” is a part of Hong Kong’s urban landscape, not only accompanying the people of Hong Kong as they grow over the past century, but also inheriting the traditional culture of Hong Kong. It has also achieved the Guinness World Records™ for having the “largest fleet of double-decker trams in service.” To celebrate this honor, Hong Kong Tramways has set up a limited-time pop-up store at ArtisTree in TaiKoo Place, where you can find limited edition collaborations with various local brands, including CASETiFY’s phone cases and airpod cases designed with the theme “Colors of Hong Kong,” ISSHO46’s “Hong Kong Tram Green” and Hong Kong exclusive series of casual wear, glass cup and coaster sets, as well as Maskology’s “Ding Ding” style adult and children’s masks.

For a limited time, the pop-up store also brings the “Hong Kong Tram Coffee Series” in collaboration with Cupping Room, offering two unique flavors including the “1904” from the Timaná Coffee Estate processed with traditional washed method, and the “2021” from the coffee farm of Rigoberto Herrera with a modern sun-dried process, both rich and aromatic. Additionally, they have launched the “Hong Kong Tram x Cupping Room x La Viña Cookie Products,” with packaging in the shape of a tram designed by local illustrator Kazy Chan.

As for those of you who love font art, don’t miss the “Ding Ding Slang” lightbox installation on display at the limited-time store, created by three well-known “Hong Kong fonts”, including the “Hong Kong Font” which is hailed as “the most beautiful and complete set of Chinese movable type in the mid-19th century”, the contemporary “Hong Kong Northern Wei True Script” computer font reinterpreted from the popular Northern Wei calligraphy in the 40s to 70s, and the “Li Han Kong Kai” commonly used in handwritten signs in the 70s and 80s. You can also admire the “Tram Route Sign” written in traditional regular script, and experience the text art full of local characteristics!
