Asian King of Pop Jay Chou and Sotheby’s have finally confirmed the dates for the “Contemporary Curated: Asia” auction, which will take place during the day and evening. The auction preview will be held from June 11th to 18th at K11 ATELIER and K11 MUSEA, where attendees can not only witness Jay Chou’s artistic taste but also appreciate the scene layout design personally crafted by him.
The preview will be held at K11 ATELIER and K11 MUSEA respectively to showcase the art pieces of this auction, as well as Jay Chou’s classical piano and concert costumes. The preview venue will be designed as a unique stage space, symbolizing immersing the audience in another time and space, leading everyone back to the moment of creation of the works, and sharing the emotions brought by art with more people.
K11 ATELIER venue will showcase over 50 art masterpieces from evening and daytime online auctions, with highlights including Jean-Michel Basquiat’s untitled work created in 1985. This iconic piece was featured on the cover of The New York Times magazine in the same year, with Jean-Michel Basquiat sitting in front of the painting being auctioned, along with a chair that was once placed in his studio, which will be exhibited together with the artwork at the auction preview.
Pablo Picasso’s “Man with Half-Length Portrait” painted in 1969 is also a must-see work in the exhibition, encompassing key themes of the artist’s late works. In addition to expressing admiration for Van Gogh through his paintings, Picasso also incorporated his own self-image as a “gunman.”
In addition, you can also get up close to admire Richard Prince’s painting “Nurse Escaping,” Pop Art master Andy Warhol’s “Campbell’s Soup I (a set of ten),” Japanese contemporary artist Yoshitomo Nara’s “Homesick,” and British graffiti master Banksy’s “Laugh Now But One Day We’ll Be in Charge,” which is quite rare.
After admiring the works of many art masters, you can head over to K11 MUSEA to see the antique piano used by Jay Chou in his directorial debut film “Secret” in 2007, as well as three sets of costumes worn during his seventh world tour “The Invincible”. The proceeds from this auction will be donated to charity. Whether you are an art enthusiast or a fan of Jay, you won’t want to miss this rare exhibition opportunity!
