Jean-Michel Basquiat, known as “The Black Picasso,” is definitely one of the most influential art masters of the 20th century. Although this talented artist had a short life, his works hold an important place in the art world, and his masterpiece “Warrior” once broke the record for the most expensive Western artwork in Asia. Recently, Christie’s announced a collaboration with HomeArt to bring the “RADIANCE” exhibition of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s masterpieces, showcasing 11 iconic works.
The works exhibited at the “RADIANCE” exhibition, created between 1981 and 1986, represent the most important period in Jean-Michel Basquiat’s artistic career. The pieces include self-portraits, anatomical diagrams, as well as his collaboration with Andy Warhol, spanning multiple mediums, themes, and art historical contexts. Viewers can also appreciate Jean-Michel Basquiat’s fusion of street elements, vibrant colors, and avant-garde abstract style.
There are many works in the exhibition that have a global exhibition record, including “Jean-Michel Basquiat” at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York in 1992, “Pop Life: Art in a Material World” at Tate Modern in London in 2009, and the solo exhibition “Basquiat” at the Beyeler Foundation in Basel, Switzerland in 2010. Among them, “Dos Cabezas 1982” has been widely selected for several of Basquiat’s most important retrospectives, with a flawless provenance record, and was once part of Andy Warhol’s private collection.
Another noteworthy point is that the exhibits include the upcoming appearance of “Untitled” at the auction on the evening of May 24th, with the work expected to continue the auction success of “Warrior.” For art lovers like you, why not take advantage of this opportunity to appreciate Jean-Michel Basquiat’s classic works up close?
