The photography art exhibition “5 days in Moscow, 1987” previously showcased at the agnès b. Gallery in Omotesando, Tokyo, is now being held in Hong Kong. It presents over 100 black and white and color photos taken by the renowned fashion designer Agnès b. during her visit to the former Soviet capital Moscow in 1987, along with handwritten notes from that time and a collection of exotic items.
Agnès b. not only loves fashion, but also has a passion for photography and cultural arts. In 1987, she traveled to Moscow for 5 days with Philippe Trétiack, a journalist from “ELLE” magazine, exploring a country she had never visited before. The sights and sounds of Moscow were completely different from the Western landmarks she was familiar with. Agnès b. wandered around Moscow, taking detailed notes of her journey in a notebook. During her trip, she also met a female fashion designer with very different traditional views from hers.
During this short 5-day trip to Moscow, Agnès b. not only captured exotic landscapes, but also captured the clothing of passersby through the lens, discovering fashion aesthetics and lifestyles from the colors, expressions, and movements on their bodies. At that time, she observed the hardships of the people of Moscow, and their clothing was relatively dark, but she also found some impressive scenes, such as children holding their parents tightly, and the sight of merchants wearing stunning clothes, all of which brought her great joy.
In addition to admiring many precious photos full of a sense of the times, the “5 days in Moscow, 1987” photography art exhibition also selected some works for charity sale. Each piece is accompanied by Agnès b.’s autograph, and half of the net proceeds from the sale of the works will be donated to the local charity organization, the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation.
