A different modern landscape painting! German artist Sven Drühl’s solo exhibition “New Landscape 4.0” kicks off in Taipei!

“Although landscape painting has a long history in the art world, it wasn’t until the 18th and 19th centuries that this type of work began to be highly valued and became a special subject for artists. Sven Drühl from Germany is one of the artists who uses landscape painting as a creative theme. His latest work was recently exhibited at the Dunren Gallery of Bluerider ART in Taipei, bringing the first exhibition of “New Landscape 4.0″, allowing you to appreciate beautiful landscapes from an artistic perspective.”

Sven Drühl has a deep understanding of both classical and contemporary art categories, especially in the realms of post-structuralism and postmodernism from the 1990s. He often extracts elements from landscape paintings in European museum collections, using a technique called “Appropriation” as one of his creative methods. What sets his work apart is that he does not use traditional materials to paint landscapes, but instead chooses materials such as silicon dioxide resin, oil paint, and lacquer to depict scenes like forests and volcanoes, bringing out different textures and characteristics.

The new works on display in this exhibition are derived from the “pure lacquer painting” of 2014. Sven Drühl does not portray real landscapes in the traditional way of copying, unexpectedly choosing files and background textures provided by gaming companies as his materials. He abstracts the landscapes depicted by many artists in art history, transforming them into virtual but realistic scenes, creating a unique artistic style.

In addition, Sven Drühl uses shiny black lacquer in his creation, creating a special artistic effect with the matte light in landscape paintings, outlining the delicate lines and rich textures of the sky, snow, rocks, and other scenery in the picture. Through unique materials, light, and layers, he presents to us the “new landscape” in his eyes. If you are interested in appreciating the unique landscapes painted by Sven Drühl, you may want to check out the online exhibition on the Bluerider ART website.
